Intensification. Infill. Housing density. These issues are dominating community concerns in West Wellington, so much so that the Wellington Village Community Association recently held a public forum to discuss their impact on the neighbourhood.
Unfortunately, the community’s city councilor-elect didn’t make it.
Katherine Hobbs had assured the association she would be there, organizer Katie Paris told the community at Elmdale School on Nov. 23.
But presentations went by, a question period followed, and there was still no sign of Hobbs as the residents stacked up their orange chairs and headed home that evening.
In an email Monday, Paris said she still hadn’t heard from Hobbs regarding the no-show last week. She says there’s speculation that Hobbs may have had the date of the event confused.
Paris said that although Hobbs’ absence was “disappointing,” she wants to let bygones be bygones, especially since Hobbs is new to her role. But if the community members’ heated questions and comments at last Tuesday’s forum are any indication, Hobbs will meet these issues very soon. She takes her seat on city council December 1.
**UPDATE**: the westwellingtonword has contacted Hobbs to allow her to give a response as to why she was not present, and is now awaiting an answer by email.
